The Nashik–Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela began with the flag hoisting (Dhwajarohan) on 31 October 2026 at Ramkund, Panchavati and Trimbakeshwar. It is held once every 12 years on the Godavari, when Jupiter enters Leo (Simha) — which is why it is called the Simhastha.

The Mela period is long, but the days that draw the biggest crowds are the three Amrit (Shahi) Snan days in August and September 2027, when the Akharas take their holy dip in procession.

02Nashik or Trimbakeshwar — where should you bathe?

The Simhastha is held at two places about 28 km apart. The Vaishnava Akharas bathe at Ramkund in Panchavati, Nashik, while the Shaiva Akharas bathe at Kushavarta Kund in Trimbakeshwar, next to the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga temple where the Godavari is said to rise.

  • Ramkund, Nashik: bigger city, more hotels, easier for families. Kalaram temple, Sita Gufa and Kapaleshwar are close by.
  • Kushavarta, Trimbakeshwar: smaller temple town, very crowded on snan days; combine it with darshan at the Jyotirlinga on a quieter day.
  • Most families stay in Nashik and visit Trimbakeshwar on a non-snan day by car.

03Which day should you choose?

Pick an Amrit Snan day only if you want to see the Akhara processions and can handle very large crowds and long walks from parking. For parents and grandparents, a normal day in August or September gives the same holy dip with far less pressure.

04How to reach Nashik

  • From Mumbai: about 170 km, 4–5 hours by road; trains to Nashik Road station.
  • From Pune: about 210 km, 5–6 hours by road.
  • From Delhi: trains to Nashik Road on the Delhi–Mumbai route, or fly to Nashik (Ozar) or Mumbai.
  • From Gujarat: about 450 km from Ahmedabad by road or train via Surat.

05Haridwar Kumbh and Nashik Kumbh in the same year

2027 is unusual: the Haridwar Kumbh Mela 2027 runs from 14 January to 20 April on the Ganga, and the Nashik Simhastha Amrit Snans follow in August and September on the Godavari. Many families plan both.
