Best Time to Visit Kashmir: Tulips, Summer Meadows or Snow?

Kashmir changes completely with the seasons. Here is what spring, summer, autumn and winter feel like, and which one suits your trip.

There is no wrong season for Kashmir — only a different Kashmir. The real question is what you want to see: tulips, green meadows, golden chinars or snow.

Kashmir season by season

SeasonMonthsWhat you get
SpringMarch–MayTulip garden in bloom, almond blossoms, pleasant days
SummerJune–AugustGreen meadows in Pahalgam, Sonamarg and Gulmarg; busiest time
AutumnSeptember–NovemberGolden chinar trees, clear skies, fewer crowds
WinterDecember–FebruarySnow in Gulmarg, frozen streams, cosy houseboat nights

Tulip season

Srinagar’s tulip garden, one of the largest in Asia, usually blooms from late March to mid-April. The exact window depends on the weather, so plan a flexible week. Our Kashmir spring packages are built around this.

Snow in winter

For snow, go between late December and February. Gulmarg is the star — the gondola takes you up to snowfields, and skiing lessons are easy to arrange. Roads to Sonamarg can close after heavy snowfall, so keep plans flexible.

How many days do you need?

  • 4–5 days: Srinagar (Dal Lake, Mughal gardens) + Gulmarg + Pahalgam
  • 6–7 days: add Sonamarg and a houseboat night
  • 8–9 days: add Doodhpathri, Yusmarg or Gurez Valley

Kashmir for honeymoon and families

Couples love a houseboat night on Dal Lake and a quiet stay in Pahalgam. Families with elders do better with a gentle pace and fewer hotel changes — we have a Kashmir family and seniors itinerary designed exactly for that.

Houseboat tips

  • One night on a houseboat is usually enough; stay in a hotel for the rest
  • Choose a houseboat with good reviews and confirm heating in winter
  • Shikara rides are best early morning or at sunset
  • Agree on the shikara rate before you get in
