Goa Trip from Delhi: Best Time, Budget and North vs South

Which airport to fly into, whether to stay in North or South Goa, when prices drop and how to plan 4–5 relaxed days.

By Thrill On Hills Travel Desk · Updated 22 October 2026 · 3 min read

Goa is a 2.5-hour flight from Delhi, which makes it the easiest beach holiday for North India. The two decisions that shape your trip are when you go and which side of Goa you stay on.

Best time to visit Goa

  • November–February: peak season, perfect weather, every shack open, highest prices around Christmas and New Year
  • March–May: hotter, quieter, good hotel deals
  • June–September: monsoon — lush and beautiful, but many beach shacks close and the sea is rough

Which airport?

Goa has two airports: Mopa (Manohar International) in the north and Dabolim in the south. Fly into Mopa if you are staying in North Goa, Dabolim for South Goa — it can save you an hour or more in a taxi.

Can’t choose? Our North & South Goa two-stay trip splits your nights between both.

A relaxed 4-night plan

  1. Day 1: Arrive, beach sunset in North Goa
  2. Day 2: Fort Aguada, Chapora and Anjuna flea market (Wednesday)
  3. Day 3: Old Goa churches and Fontainhas Latin Quarter in Panaji
  4. Day 4: Move south — Palolem or Agonda
  5. Day 5: Fly home

Beyond the beaches

  • Old Goa: the Basilica of Bom Jesus and Se Cathedral
  • Fontainhas, Panaji: colourful Portuguese-era lanes, best explored on foot
  • Spice plantations: a relaxed half-day with a Goan lunch
  • Dudhsagar Falls: at its best just after the monsoon
  • River cruises: sunset on the Mandovi

Goa with family

Families usually prefer South Goa or the quieter end of North Goa around Candolim. Choose a resort with a pool for the children, plan sightseeing for mornings and evenings, and keep the hot afternoons for rest. Our Goa family holiday is planned at exactly this pace.

Getting around

Taxis are the easiest way to move between beaches; agree the fare in advance or book through your hotel. Scooter rentals are popular but only rent if you have a valid licence and wear a helmet.
