The Haridwar Kumbh 2027 runs from 14 January to 20 April 2027. Officially it is the Ardh Kumbh, held every six years on the Ganga at Haridwar. What makes 2027 different is that, for the first time in an Ardh Kumbh, the Akharas will hold Amrit (Shahi) Snan processions — so expect crowds closer to a full Kumbh than a regular year.

We plan Kumbh stays from our own office at Bhoopatwala, Haridwar. This guide is what we tell families when they first call us: which dates to pick, where to stay, and how to keep the trip comfortable for parents and grandparents.

Kumbh 2027 snan dates

The Mela administration has announced ten bathing days. Three of them are Amrit Snan days with Akhara processions.

6 Feb 2027Mauni AmavasyaSnan
11 Feb 2027Basant PanchamiSnan
20 Feb 2027Magh PurnimaSnan

8 Mar 2027Phalguna AmavasyaAmrit Snan
7 Apr 2027Nav SamvatsarSnan
14 Apr 2027Mesh SankrantiAmrit Snan
15 Apr 2027Ram NavamiSnan
20 Apr 2027Chaitra PurnimaSnan (last day)

Which date should you choose?

If you want to see the Akhara processions, choose one of the three Amrit Snan days — 6 March, 8 March or 14 April. Be ready for very large crowds, vehicle bans well before the ghats and long walks. Hotels near Har Ki Pauri for these dates are the first to sell out.

If you are travelling with elders or small children, a regular snan day such as Basant Panchami (11 Feb) or Magh Purnima (20 Feb) is usually far easier. The bath is just as meaningful, movement around the ghats is calmer and hotel rates are lower. The weather in February is cool in the mornings, so carry a shawl.

Where to stay in Haridwar during Kumbh

  • Near Har Ki Pauri — walking distance to the main ghat. Best for snan days, but rooms are small and booked early.
  • Outer Haridwar and Bhoopatwala — quieter, more space, a short drive or walk to the ghats when traffic allows.
  • Rishikesh — about 25 km away. A calm base with good hotels; plan to leave very early on snan days because roads into Haridwar get restricted.

How to reach Haridwar

By train: Haridwar Junction has direct trains from Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata and many other cities. Extra Kumbh special trains are usually announced closer to the dates. By air: the nearest airport is Jolly Grant, Dehradun, roughly 35 km away. By road: Haridwar is about 220 km from Delhi, around 5–6 hours outside peak traffic.

Practical tips for a calm Kumbh

  1. Carry an ID card for every traveller and a printed copy of your hotel address.
  2. Fix a meeting point at the ghat — phone networks get jammed on big snan days.
  3. Wear comfortable footwear you can walk in for 3–4 km.
  4. For elders, plan the snan for early morning and rest in the afternoon.
  5. Keep a small bag only. Large bags slow you down at security checks.

Combine Kumbh with Rishikesh or Char Dham

The Kumbh ends on 20 April, close to when the Char Dham temples usually open around Akshaya Tritiya. Pilgrims coming in April can add Rishikesh, a Do Dham yatra or the full Char Dham Yatra once the 2027 temple opening dates are announced.

What an Amrit Snan day is really like

On the three Amrit Snan days the Akharas walk in procession to Har Ki Pauri in a set order, and the main ghat is reserved for them for several hours. Ordinary pilgrims bathe at the other ghats along the river during that time, or at Har Ki Pauri once the processions have finished. Vehicles are stopped far outside the Mela area, so most people walk the last few kilometres.

It is an unforgettable sight — thousands of sadhus, drums, flags and devotees lining the route — but it is a long, crowded day. If you go, start before sunrise, carry water and snacks, and agree with your group on exactly where you will meet if you get separated.

A simple 3-day Kumbh plan

  1. Day 1: Arrive in Haridwar, check in, evening Ganga aarti at Har Ki Pauri.
  2. Day 2: Early-morning snan, temple visits (Mansa Devi, Chandi Devi by ropeway), rest in the afternoon.
  3. Day 3: Drive to Rishikesh for Triveni Ghat, Ram Jhula and Laxman Jhula area, then depart.

Our Haridwar Kumbh 2027 enquiry packages follow this pattern as 2N/3D or 3N/4D with Rishikesh. Tell us your snan date, group size and the ages of elders, and we will suggest the right hotel zone.

What to carry

  • Light woollens for January–February mornings; cotton for April
  • A small towel and a spare set of clothes in a waterproof pouch
  • Basic medicines, ORS and any regular prescriptions
  • A power bank and a small torch
  • Cash in small notes — card machines may not work in crowds
