When to go

The best time to visit Char Dham in Uttarakhand is **May–June and late September–October**, when weather conditions are generally more favourable for the yatra. Avoid the peak monsoon months due to heavy rainfall and landslide risks. Always check temple opening and closing dates, weather forecasts, and road conditions before travelling.

A little context changes everything

The sacred landscape of Kedarnath

Kedarnath belongs to several overlapping pilgrimage traditions: the Char Dham of Uttarakhand, the Panch Kedar temples and the twelve Jyotirlingas. Temple traditions connect the shrine with the Pandavas and Adi Shankaracharya. These are living religious traditions, not a single archaeologically established construction date. Learning about the shrine before visiting gives its mountain setting a deeper meaning.
